...just a thought. Maybe you know someone who could video your repair classes? As well as entertaining, it could be a great asset to folks who couldn't make it.
That's a beautiful Remington 5, and it seems to type well. Good to know there is so much interest in reviving the old typewriters. Hope you'll enjoy your golf expedition!
I can sum up typing on the Remington Portable that just came back from Cambridge in two words: MAGNEE-FEEK!
Works smooooothly, the new platen takes the paper up great, that CLACK!! is now more like a , and it's pretty looking. Hope I work that well at 85!
Ditto for the beat-up Olivetti Valentine. Yeah, maybe I should have gone $400+ for a clean example. But this one types well, and the looks are cool, no matter that those in the know say it's all show and no go.
Cambridge Typewriter --where the best machines graduate from--like Harvard for typers!

PS If you're reading this and you're: a) young b) in New York/Brooklyn, etc. c) you dig typing and other analog things... get in touch with Ashlea.Halpern@nymag.com

I have been lurking your site for a while. I just got a Smith Corona Coronet after waiting a long time for the right machine to come into the local thrift store. I paid $7.99. Very excited!
hey, just found your blog. i bought a 1936 royal from your store about 2 years ago. im still using it everyday. i keep my blog on it... www.awkwardengineer.com
Tom, have a great tournament, and if there's any rain, may the positive energies of your customers and friends benevolently detour it around and away from your course.
Incidentally, hold my machines till well after you get back; like the second week of June. Or even later. By then I'll almost be ready to bring the next wave to you. And I do want to bring them, not ship.
Next wave: The SM4 is in da house! and it's gorgeous! Not only that, but a mint SelectricII is on its way from Reno today!
If you don't already have one, I agree with your wife, keep it. I love my #5!

ReplyDeleteTypewriter repair classes are an awesome idea! If I lived anywhere near the eastern US, I'd sign up (:
ReplyDeleteI second the videotaping idea, if for no other reason than to preserve the skills for future generations.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone, that's great.
ReplyDeleteHey Mike, Thanks for the shout out. I kind of liked the Rem. Port. myself.
Sapphireblue, good choice on the Coronet. I'm so fond of those style SCM electrics.
Sam, Glad you found my blog and I'm so glad your still digging the Royal.
Joe, Thanks for the weather blessing. I ckecked out your machines earlier and will tackle them next week. I'll call when thy're done.
Just stumbled upon your blog. Pleasantly surprised to hear that your shop is busy; really energizing!
