A reporter interviews Abraham.

The QWERTY cookies were a big hit and delilious.

Amelia brought a few of her collection to show people.

I likes the look of this Tower and it types beautifully.

This braille writer will a great display piece.
The No.3100 is stamped on the three main pieces. I wonder if it's a model number or serial number.

  1. It looks like such fun! I'm getting my Noiseless Portable restored right now and your pic makes me all the more impatient. I see your bin of vintage ads. I have a few dozen and I rotate them every so often in frames in my study. The large-format ones from the Time/Fortune era are really stunning. Thanks for sharing! RichardK/Texas

  2. Well, if you get really hard-up, I could sell you my Selectric for a pittance, although I'm not sure what shipping would cost...

  3. Very interesting post, as always!

I'm a fan of Smith Coronas, too.

The Gossen Tippa is pretty cool. After reading your description of yours, I'm very tempted to take mine in for an overhaul (it's got a serious skipping problem and mushy left margin). Very nice typer though!

Keep up the great work! I'm so glad that typewriter repairmen like you are keeping this wonderful old technology alive and well.

  4. Ugh, that Tower President is to die for! Why couldn't all Smith-Coronas of the '50s look like that? :D

  5. I have a working Selectric 1 in black I would be happy to part with, but I think it is the full width carriage. I hardly use it enough to justify the space it takes up, so if you need it for the movie or just for inventory, I would be happy to make a deal.

We have (the Wife and I) been hoping to come up and see the store for a while now, and as soon as we get a car that's not likely to break down between the Cape and Boston, we will!

  6. Mike- Thank you very much for the offer. I might get back to you again if I have no luck next week. By then I'll be hard up.
Cameron- Thanks for the nice comments.
Ted- The picture doesn't do the Tower justice. It's a beauty for sure.
Winston- Thanks for the offer. I'm told they can't use the wide carriage models (15") because they won't fit on the desk. They only want the short (11") and medium (13") models. I hope you do make it up for a visit.

  7. Tom, If you get very hard up, you might call my typewriter guy here in AZ, Bill Wahl at Mesa Typewriter Exchange. I know he's got at least 3 of the small 11" Selectric 1's in cosmetically good shape (dunno if they function). They're Black, Tan & Blue.

    He's at 480-964-3603 or MesaTypewriterExchange@yahoo.com

Tell him Ted sent ya (:
