A Royal Mildew 800 ?

This Royal Futura 800 gets a second life.

This machine not only looks great, but smells great too.

I can't believe this machine was serviced so much in ten years.

This Olympia SM-5 is perfect.

Notice how the corners of the machine are starting to turn caramel.

  1. It was delightful to meet you, Tom!

I checked the font that I made from a Royal Quiet Deluxe and it's pretty close to the typeface on the ex-moldy Futura, but not the e! That tilted e is cute and quirky, and as far as we know now, unique to this Futura.

  2. Thanks for the nice post on Richard's visit and the moldy Futura. I like the e. Both of the machines in your post are really great looking.

  3. There's a fine line between the lovely mustiness of an old machine and an unbearable stink. My worst stinker was an Empire Aristocrat and it was all coming from the sound-proofing. We forget how much of ourselves and our immediate environment (dust, crumbs, grease) we leave behind when we type - and how it can evolve into new life forms if you leave it long enough! And it is really nice to read that you hooked up with Richard.

  4. Richard- I found a blog from earlier this year from Ted Munk on the Futura 800 with different typestyle but with the tipped e so it's probably just a quirky thing they did with the 800. Thanks.

Bill- Thanks for your nice comments.

Rob- I get a lot of stinkers in here. Whenever I hear the words typewriter and basement in the same sentence, I cringe because I know what's coming. A real stinker!

  5. Both my futura 800s have the same font as yours with tilted "e". One is in pica and one is in elite. So, given the addition of this 800 it seems quite reasonable that this type face was developed for the 800 exclusively. But your machine is a great bargain. The 800 is the epitome of the portable Royal line.

  6. Martin- Glad to hear you like the F-800 too. One of these days I'll have to pick one up for me. I agree with you, there are a joy to type on.

  7. I'm really surprised the old gentleman wanted to sell his late wife's typewriter. Many people can't bear to sell things with sentimental attachment.

I don't blame him for smirking about the town's mismanagement of the ski hill. I've never seen any government organization that was as efficient and proactive as a private business. It's a shame they took the property from him and it's now unused.

  8. Tom, I had a good laugh over this story. I'm the guilty party who brought it to you! I hope you sold it after all that work. I'll see you next week -- I need a new ribbon.

  10. You ought to likewise consider approaches to avoid mildew along caulking and different hole in your restroom. This has a tendency to occur around the shower along the divider and close to the floor. Water falls there when anybody gets in or out of the shower.Best milddew cleaners
