Saturdays Won't Be The Same.

Chris and I at the Type-Out last fall.

1932 Royal Signet Senior in great shape.

1959 Adler Primus is an awesome typer.

1941 green Royal KMM seems weird not in black.

This Consul made in Czechoslovakia was a little tinny.

A nice paint job for a great machine.

Can't tell if this Olivetti Lettera 22 is the original finish.

This 1964 Hermes Standard 8 was so much fun to type on.

What can you say about this picture. Cute kid!

  1. Lovely typewriters. I'm going to have to stop by your shop when I take a trip up north in the fall.

  2. Good grief! Such a drool-inducing collection of typewriters. I especially like that KMM. What a find!

  3. I know how it is to "lose" good friends but it's mostly me who re-locates. I'm sure you'll find a way to keep in touch with Chris.

I'm 99% sure that the Lettera 22 is a re-paint; as you know, I have been keeping an eye on all things Olivetti, especially the L22. But it looks great, so it really does not matter.

  4. Also, you can feel great about teaching the ways of typewriter repair to your young charge. It's important that the ranks of typewriter repairmen grow rather than shrink. (:

  5. Fare thee well, Chris! I wish you the best. I'll see you again further up the road.

Great collection of machines and that is a very tasteful italic typeface on that Olivetti.

  7. Best wishes to Chris for his move to NYC.
Those are some great looking typewriters.
I really like the last photo of your shop and it looks like the king of the hill just may become a typweriter collector in his later years.

  8. Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments. I'm going to miss seeing Chris every Saturday but I like having someone with me because Saturday is usually so busy. I might keep my eye open for someone with the right fit.
Monica- I hope you stop in for a visit if you come to Boston. I like to play show and tell when people visit the shop.
Ton- I agree with you on the L-22. I felt it was repainted but wasn't 100% sure. Thanks!
Ted- I hope to train many more people before my numbers up.

  10. im sure chris will take along what he learned under your apprenticeship and friendship.
as for the machines, i really like the paint job on that L22.

I am anxiously awaiting Black Mass - i think it's going to be one of the better movies next year and i really like scott cooper's most recent film Out of the Furnace - he's a gifted director, not to mention writer.

  11. These images bring back many memories. My father was a typewriter mechanic - worked for Remington Rand when I was a child. We always had at least 20 machines around the shop of various types. Thank you for sharing.
