About this blog

This blog is about the daily activities in a busy typewriter shop. I want to share with you the many interesting people who come in here, the beautiful machines I get and most of all the great typewriter stories that people share with me!

Busiest Christmas Season Ever!

A young teen writer found this under her tree.

I sold a bunch of this 1950's Smith Coronas

Also sold many of these 50's Quiet de Luxe models.

A handful of these Super Sterlings under the tree too.

For the American Girl Doll "Kit" fans.

A couple of these Underwood 319's are in new hands.

A Silent-Super on Sylvia Plath's writing desk.

These Underwoods got trashed at Burning Man Festival.

                                                     THE END

  1. So interesting and encouraging! I'm very glad to hear you have an apprentice these days.

I experienced a shadow of what you did in my capacity as volunteer amateur typewriter repairman for WordPlay Cincy. Unfortunately, the shop closes several days before Christmas (it follows the schedule of the Cincinnati Public Schools), which caused some frustration among would-be buyers. Those who did get in bought up all the small stock of machines I'd prepared for sale. This year I'll have to stockpile more in advance, if I can.

  2. Tom, I always enjoy reading your blog. It was fun reading about all the new young typewriter owners. I hope they treasure them.

Seeing those two machines trashed at Burning Man, and your thoughts about there being only a limited number of machines left, is a sobering thought, but also gives added personal satisfaction at having a small collection of functional machines myself.

Enjoy the rest, and I hope you have a stellar 2016.

  4. I wonder if the provenance of the Burning Man machines would make them something you could sell...
